Permanent Exterior Lighting, From Roofline to Controller

Our work is permanent exterior lighting installation. We mount slim aluminum track along the roofline, set LED nodes inside it and connect everything to an app-controlled power supply, so you can run warm white on an ordinary evening and full color for a holiday without a ladder. Before anything is ordered, we show you the track finishes, the LED spacing and where the power will come from, and we tell you how each choice will look on your house.

How We Work on Your Home Exterior

Permanent lighting stays on your house for years, so the choices made on day one matter. We slow down at the start so the finished roofline looks like it belongs there.

You see the materials first
We bring track samples and explain the trade-offs. Powder-coated aluminum holds its shape through freeze and thaw and keeps a crisp line, while lighter mounting options cost less but can sag or yellow over time. You choose with the facts in front of you.
Track matched to your trim
Most rooflines here run white, brown, black or a painted wood tone. We match the channel color to your fascia or drip edge so the track reads as part of the trim in daylight, not as something added later.
Nothing driven through your shingles
We fasten to the fascia board or the face of the gutter, never through the roofing itself. That keeps your roof sealed and leaves the lights easy to reach if a node ever needs attention.
Wiring you will not notice
Leader wires are tucked along soffits and down corners, and the power supply goes in a protected spot near an existing outdoor outlet. If your home needs a dedicated outlet, we say so at the quote, not on install day.
Estimates you can read
Your written estimate lists footage, track, LEDs, controller and labor as separate lines. No surprise add-ons once the ladder is up.

About Lighting Contractor Scotia

We are a local lighting contractor focused on one thing: permanent exterior lighting that looks right on a house and keeps working through upstate winters. That focus lets us spend our time on the details that decide how an install ages, like the finish on the track, the angle of the nodes and where each wire runs.

Snow loads, ice along the eaves and long stretches of freeze and thaw are normal here, and they are hard on clips and plastic. That is why we lean on rigid aluminum track and sealed LED nodes, and why we explain those choices instead of simply listing them. We would rather you understand what is going on your roofline than take our word for it.

Our customers are homeowners who want better curb appeal without hauling out ladders every November. We treat the house the way we would want ours treated: careful on the roof edge, tidy on the ground and clear about what you are paying for.

How a Lighting Job Runs

Most installs move from first call to finished roofline in a few clear steps. You know what is happening at each one.

  1. 1

    A conversation by phone

You tell us about the house, which sides you want lit and how you plan to use the lights. We set a time to come out and give you a free quote.

  2. 2

    Measure, match and explain

We walk the roofline, measure every run, check the fascia and find the power source. We hold track samples against your trim and explain the LED choices, then send a written estimate.

  3. 3

    Install day

The crew protects plantings and walkways, fastens the track, sets the nodes and routes the wiring out of sight. Cut-offs, packaging and screws are picked up before we leave.

  4. 4

    Set-up and walkthrough

We connect the controller to the app on your phone, build a few everyday and holiday scenes with you and show you how to set schedules. You leave with lights that work the way you want.

What Goes Into a Permanent Lighting Quote

We price each house from its own measurements, since two homes of about the same size can have rooflines that differ a lot. The number rests on a few things we measure and go over with you. These are the ones that change it.

There is no charge for the quote, and you get it once we have measured the roofline and gone over the options together. Each part is on its own line, so you can see what everything costs.

Feet of roofline
How much roof edge you want lit matters more than anything else. Some homeowners do only the front and others go all the way around; we can quote both so you can weigh them.
Roof layout and height
A plain ranch eave is quick work. Steep gables, dormers, inside corners and a second or third story call for more cuts, more time and slower ladder work.
Track color and shape
Stock colors are less expensive than a custom color match. When a gutter or fascia has an odd face, a different mounting profile may be needed so the line stays straight.
Kind of LED and how far apart
RGBW full-color nodes run higher than single-color warm white, and closer spacing puts more nodes in each foot. Close spacing makes a smoother band of light; wider spacing gives an accent look at a lower cost.
Power supply and controls
A bigger house can call for a second power supply or controller. How far the lights sit from a working outdoor outlet also changes the wire and labor needed.
Shape the trim is in
New track should not hang on soft or rotted fascia. When we spot damage, we take photos and tell you about it before anything is priced around it.

Common Questions on Permanent Lighting

Something not covered here? (518) 754-0664

Can you see the track in daylight?

Hardly. The channel sits low and is colored to match your fascia or drip edge, so from the road it looks like part of the trim. Neighbors usually notice it only after the lights come on.

What do snow and ice do to the lights?

The track is rigid aluminum and the LED nodes are sealed and built to stay outdoors all year. It mounts to the fascia instead of lying on the roof, so snow on the roofline will not bend it, and the nodes are rated for cold. Ice dams come from the roof itself, but the way we mount keeps the lights off the shingles.

Will you make holes in the roof?

No. Fasteners go into the fascia board or the front of the gutter and never through shingles. Your roof stays sealed, and any service can be done from a ladder without touching the roofing.

What does the app let me do?

Full-color nodes let you set color, brightness, patterns and schedules, and store scenes for holidays, game days or simple warm white. Single-color systems control brightness and timing. We get the app running with you the day we install.

Can more lights be added down the road?

Yes. More track can go on another side of the house or over a garage, and the new section runs from the same app. During the first install we mark where a future run would connect, so adding it later is easy.

How do you come up with the price?

We measure the roofline, record its shape and height, and go over track finish, LED type and spacing with you. Those numbers become a written estimate with each item listed. The quote is free and comes by phone or in person once we have measured.

Is warm white or full color the better choice?

That comes down to how you plan to use them. Warm white is simpler and less expensive, a good fit if you mainly want a steady evening glow at the roofline. Full color lets the same track handle holidays and events, so many owners pick it once and stop putting up seasonal decorations.
